Multi-passionate or Renaissance person.
Is there really such a thing or are we trying to hide behind this title because we cannot make a concrete decision?
I choose to believe the earlier part of the question. I believe that people can and are multi-passionate.
What is a renaissance person? Let’s see. Shall we?
Merriam Webster defines this title as this: a man who is interested in and knows a lot about many things. So the answer is yes. Society altered the term from man to person because women are awesome and just as talented as the male counterpart but yes there is such a thing.
Multi-passionates are creatives, thinkers, inventors, always learning. We like change and love variety. We cannot be happy doing one thing it is not in our nature. A lot of us are self taught and have several interests. At any given time our passions and interests can change and our direction can change. That does not mean we are failures. That means we are multi-passionate.
Many think that we are just ADHD (I am.) Not every multi-passionate person has ADD or ADHD. Let’s look at what ADHD actually is. ADHD: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological disorder characterized by developmentally inappropriate impulsivity, inattention, and in some cases, hyperactivity. What does that mean?
Well, for me it means I cannot focus, I don’t remember things like appointments or where my keys are that I just had in my hand. I cannot retain information and sometimes I can’t communicate what my brain is trying to. It feels as if I am in a room full of people always talking at once, a constant struggle to keep up. To me, it’s like I am always trying to stay above water. It’s exhausting. Now.. I have been on meds for a couple months (I feel much better) now and I still have multi-passions. The only difference is that I can actually focus on those passions now.
If you feel like you need to change direction in your business that do it because it’s your business! Multi-Passionate is not a crutch word and not something we are hiding behind. Don’t ever feel like you are a failure because you change direction. Some people are just that awesome.
